Welcome to WAITEMATA 2018!

Kia ora, kia orana, talofa lava, malo e lelei, ni hao, namaste, bonjour, hola, guten tag..

We have been busy during the first few weeks of Term 1.

Out of the Box

During the first few days many excited students were eagerly involved in the 'opening of the box' ceremony with their new chromebooks.

Technology Challenge

We also had a challenge where students had to work in groups across the senior syndicate to construct a shelter to fit a group member from newspaper, tape and wool that would withstand a strong wind. We started off indoors to design and construct...

...then moved outside to face the wind from the leaf blower!!!

Swimming and Water Safety

For the first half of term students have been improving their confidence and skills in the water at Cameron Pools. Recently Waitemata learned some safety skills while wearing life jackets.

Waiting to hop in the pool

Huddling to stay together and keep warm

Helping to rescue someone

  1. Kia ora Waitemata learners,
Welcome to Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu for 2018. I'm James, and although I don't officially work with Manaiakalani any more, I still really enjoy dropping in to class blogs and sharing in the learning. What a fab post with so many things going on. Unboxing your devices for the first time is one of the best feelings of the year! Your technology challenge looks awesome and like you all had a great time. How did the shelters survive the leaf blower? What happened to all of the paper, did you recycle it? It's a really creative activity and one that I'm sure will inspire other classes as they drop into your blog to comment and share. I can't wait to drop back in and see more of your learning throughout the year.

It is nice to finally be able to view your blog. I am Miss Waho and I am a teacher at Ara Tū Whakatā Gilberthorpe School in Christchurch. My class, Te Rōpū Whakamanawa is one of your Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu partners. We have been pretty slow in getting started so it's good to finally be here.
It looks like you have had a great start to your year and I am looking forward to seeing what else you get up to throughout 2018.

  12. Kia ora Waitemata, Zoey here from Gilberthorpe school. Gilberthorpe school is in Christchurch, Hei Hei. This year I am a year six...
WOW! It sounds like you have really been busy. I am sure everyone would of been excited to do all that stuff. Personally I would love opening the box to a chromebook and the challenge because I am not a big fan off pools because half the time the pools are really cold.
What are you planning on doing next?
I am really looking forward to reading your blog posts more often.
    BLOG U LATER!

I was wondering what you have been doing for the last few weeks. I have checking in every now and again and I haven't seen any new blog posts. Everyday I have been getting more interested on what your next blog post is going to be. I am super excited for the next blog post but I really want to see another blog post because looking at the same one every time I come on to your blog is starting to get boring so please get a blog post up as soon as possible.

We have been doing lots of AWESOME stuff lately. I really think that you should check out or blog because I really want you to see what we have been doing and we also want you to comment on our blog posts and we also would appreciate it if you could follow us or check our blog twice a week.

Next time that I comment or reply I am going to make sure I use CAPITALS and next time I comment or reply I am going to write a bit more. Especially I want to write more questions.

  21. Kia ora I am a student at Gilberthorpe Primary School. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas. This is a great blog I like how you have used some tech for your first. I think Just a question if you were to do a technology challenge how many people would be in there Your next step would be to limit the amount and get a little bit of wording wording into
